Synchrony Office Building

West Chester, Pennsylvania

Synchrony Office Building was built in the 1840s and was originally home to a stove manufacturing company. Throughout the years, many renovations had lead to an tight and uncomfortable layout along with the encasement of the original brickwork and other historic mechanisms.

In the design for the Synchrony Office Building, all interior partitions and unwanted finishes were removed to reveal the original brickwork and wood structure. A new monumental staircase was added to create a strong connection between levels. The attic space, which was home to the hoist gear and mechanism, became a conference area, displaying the hoist gear over a glass floor.

Synchrony Office Building was the winner of the 2016 West Chester Historic Preservation Award and the 2018 Professional Silver Award from SARA PA.
